Wakarusa

The festival is in full swing! Several dozen bands have already performed, with another several dozen to go. The pop-free crew is there.... and we'll be bringing you pictures and video and reviews of several acts as soon as our writers sober-up enough to send me something semi-coherent.

Keep checking back.... no one can stay on a bender forever.

Fun In The Mud

Wakarusa

They're having fun in the mud at Wakarusa!

I just got off the phone with Alex the Intern and she said that last night at Clinton Lake was "lots of fun".

Some of last night's bands were cancelled, but that didn't stop people from enjoying the festival. After dancing in the rain and playing in the mud for a while, the pop-free crew retreated to their tent for the night to ride out the storm under the protection of 1/32" of plastic/vinyl.

This morning the team evidently moved camp from the press camping area to the regular camping area, citing douchey neighbors as the reason for the move. They'll be wandering the festival grounds all weekend talking to bands and fans. Keep checking back for the latest updates.

Tonight at The Studio Downtown

I got a phone call last night about this show. Looks like there's been another band aded to the line-up, The Leo Project will be playing this show now too. I also have it on good authority that there are a dozen spots on the guestlist reserved for artists who are in town for rockfest.

If you're looking for something cool to do tonight this is probably your best bet.

Over a year ahead of The Buzz

 NEW MUSIC FIRST

Just a quick post to share something that made me literally LOL.

Regular popfreeradio listeners know we like to play new music before the FM stations get around to it. We usually beat KRBZ (the local FM so-called "alternative" station) to the new tracks by a couple weeks... sometimes even a couple months. This evening, however, things reached a whole new level.

Popfreeradio.com first aired The Republic Tigers - "Buildings And Mountains" on our test stream in September of 2006. This evening as I was driving home at about 9:30pm or so (I was listening to the buzz because I'm lazy and I still haven't rigged up a way to listen to popfreeradio in the car) I heard the buzz's "new music first" sounder followed by "Buildings and Mountains".

I've often joked about the "new music first" sounder because we play most of the "new music first" tracks BEFORE the buzz, but today took the cake. A YEAR AND A HALF after we first aired the track, the buzz began promoting it with the "new music first" sounder.

I'm sure none of you are as amused as I am by this, but it literally made me LOL for a second... then I turned it up and enjoyed the song.... If you're not familiar with the track, it'll be all over the FM dial soon,  or you can check it out at The Tigers' myspace .

Mad props to the Tigers for finally being recognized by the FM so-called "alternative" station here in town. Too bad it took a national TV appearance to get the so-called music professionals at the local FM alt station to start spinnin' 'em.
