I've recently read "A People's History of American Empire" an illustrated comic-book style book by Howard Zinn.

Notable ones within the last 2 to 3 months:

Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
1984 - George Orwell
Animal Farm - George Orwell
...by the way you should read those before we're not allowed to anymore...
His Dark Materials trilogy (the Golden Compass books) - all eye candy though
The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid - Bill Bryson - again, eye candy
Life of Pi - Yann Martel
The Kite Runner
Manic - Terri Cheney
The Time Traveler's Wife
Biography on the Rolling Stones
and I'm currently trudging though Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I hated it the first time I tried to read it about 10 years ago, but now I can't get enough of it. I love being so involved with a book that I stay up until 4 am reading it cause I don't want to go to sleep.

On bigthink.com - 1984 was one of my 5 must-read books. Another one that I strongly recommend is Free Lunch by David Cay Johnston - it will probably make you mad, and it should. It's about different ways that the government helps the wealthy.

Hey thanx I'm always looking for suggestions on what to read.

Last year I read The Tipping Point which was really interesting. It talked about, well, tipping points and how certain products, ideas, or trends take off while others don't and all the reasons behind it. Sounds dry, but it was written well and pretty informative. Helpful for me since I'm trying to make a go of my own business...

Someone recently suggested The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein. It's about the rise of disaster capitalism... it's an economic history of the last 50 years and the rise of free-market fundamentalism around the world. sounds pretty interesting and will probably be my next book.

Interestingly, I was reading 1984 while I was staying in London earlier this summer. I got to see the building that was meant to be the Ministry of Truth in the book.

recently I read Monster (the autobiography of an old school LA gang-banger), outside of that, just the usual conspiracy-theory stuff.
