What does everyone think about Obama winning the Presidency?

I can see there's a lot of opinion on this one judging from the rush of responses...

Well, he won by a lot more than I expected he would. I voted for him, so for once I'm happy that the candidate I voted for actually won. Now, time will be the factor in deciding whether it was a good thing or not. I'm pretty disillusioned with the whole voting process anyway - from the outdated electoral college to the candidates changing their stances once they finally get the job... I'm pretty much just waiting to be disappointed.

Personally I think, like Truman, he'll go down in history as one of the worst presidents ever. Not because he is the worst but the bucket of shit he has inherited seems to me to be damn near impossible to fix and keep the promises he's made.

The big question is whether or not he (along with the democratic houses) can keep us out of a full-on depression.

If we don't fall into a deep depression then he can turn out to be a decent president, but like Chuckles, I think he's inherited a big bucket of shit and he's got his work cut out for him.

I expect the country to really start falling apart. The people with all the guns wouldn't revolt under republican rule, but now that there's a black guy with a muslim name in the white house the rednecks can revolt without compromising their politics.

I don't think there is anything anyone can do to keep us out of a depression at the moment. If the GDP drops this quarter we will be in a depression on the day Obama takes office.

The definition of a recession is two consecutive quarters that the GDP goes down. The GDP went down last quarter. As far as I could find there is no such mathematical definition of a depression.

I think the depression will be good for america.... maybe it'll help us get our priorities back in line.... and if not, the country deserves to fall.

No matter what he does there will ALWAYS be a group of people who will condemn him for what he does or what he doesn‘t do, we are still a nation of prejudice and bigotry. I can’t see that changing in the first term or even in the next 100 years.

Honestly, I don’t think he can fix the US problems in the 4 years it just might take most of the 2nd just to get things on track. Bitch slapping economy, donkey punching bullshit government involvement in the war, and pay more fucking attention to the US needs… If anyone hasn’t noticed but this country is in serious need of TLC.

There are quite a few people who have it in their best interests (or at least they think so) for Obama to fail - either for political power, certain corporate executives, etc.

I'm not a big believer of having the well-to-do piss on me and claim it's the economy trickling down.

I voted for the guy and I'm hoping he fails... it will take a complete collapse of the economy for us to have a revolution and this country SO DESPERATELY needs one.
