Was introduced to this site by a nice young lady at Spivey's in Lenexa. She noticed me because I had a debate with a not so nice young lady (and her angry blonde friend) who called me a Bush/Cheney loving Nazi because I support the current war on terrorism. I have my reasons for supporting this effort and its the only reason I support them (other than the fact that I am a fiscal conservative) because I believe its aimed at sending to history's ash heap the breed of cavemen who are anti woman, anti Israel, anti anything that might stand in the way of a new Caliphate, Scumbags who have decided that a return to the 17th century would be a good thing for the world in which we all live. The not so nice (or not so open minded) young lady who shouted Nazi (probably without any knowledge of what constitutes such a label) wouldn't listen to me when I explained to her that I was a Pro-Choice Democrat who holds the belief that religion is the primary reason for all the wars that are being conducted currently and that she and I probably didn't differ on most issues facing us today. I am not an apologist for the U.S. and our previous mis-deeds. "U.S.A. all the way and the rest can just suck it" is not the mantra that I believe in. I just happen to think that we are right to fight this one. Just like we would have been right to intervene (but didn't) in Rwanda in '94, and just like we were right to finally intervene in the Balkins finally in the late '90's. I write to this forum because I was led to believe that I might find some open minds and I would like an opportunity for open and honest debate. Or at least be able to find some decent non corporate program director driven music. I'll settle for either or I guess. Don't mean to lay down a rambling screed, just wanted to introduce myself and hope that all who read this forum are doing well. Love Chadbo.

There are lots of open minds here... But waging war to change someone else's belief structure is hardly a sign of open-mindedness.
Politics (and by extension, war) is a game of language. It's all in the wording.
conservatives view our military as invited liberators while liberals see us as invading aggressors.
There is no right or wrong and there is no truth... there is only what people believe.
Remember we went to iraq originally because "Saddam had ties to Al Qaeda". then when that didn't pan out, we were there for weapons of mass destruction. Then when that proved to be false, we were there to liberate the Iraqi people from a tyrannous dictator.... once we removed the dictator we'd orignally installed, we were there to create a democratic government. Once democracy was set in motion we were there to insure security. Now we're just there because we have no way out.
The greater war on terrorism is a joke. We're only against certain terrorists. We allow terrorist organizations to flourish on US soil. The KKK and all the Aryan groups, the Black Panthers, The Westboro Baptist Church, and PETA to name a few.
These groups all use intimidation and violence to spread their message and enforce their views on others. Which is what we're doing by invading a land, destabilizing their government and imposing our own social views on their society.
To be completely fair, the war on terror has many parallels with the Nazi war effort of WWII.. the only notable exception is the enemy and the means of "processing"... instead of using 'em for slave labor and gassin' 'em, we're just poisoning the land with depleted uranium and crippling the economy to force a state of serfdom wherein our enemies are dependent upon us for financial assistance and military protection.
I look forward to more in-depth conversations in the future.
